Confidence, Discipline, and Self-Defense That Last a Lifetime
Our Tigers Jiu-Jitsu program builds on the fundamentals kids learn as Little Tigers — with more advanced techniques, live practice, and leadership development. Designed for ages 8–13, this program helps students gain real self-defense skills while improving focus, responsibility, and confidence.
Kids learn to handle challenges calmly, show respect, and stay in control — both on and off the mats.
What Students Learn:
• Practical self-defense using leverage and control (not punches or kicks)
• How to set boundaries and manage conflict safely
• Problem-solving through live, controlled sparring

• The mindset of perseverance and focus
Why Parents Love Tigers:
• Non-violent self-defense built on respect and control

Frequently Asked Questions
Will Jiu-Jitsu make my child a bully?
Absolutely not. In fact, the opposite is true: confident kids are kinder kids.
At Academy of Jiu-Jitsu Scottsdale, we teach children to use their voice first and Jiu-Jitsu only as a last resort. Our program emphasizes respect, discipline, and non-violent self-defense based on control and escapes, never punches or kicks.
What should my child wear to their first Jiu-Jitsu class?
We’ll provide a uniform (gi) to borrow for their first class. Underneath, your child can wear comfortable leggings or shorts and a t-shirt or rashguard.
Our coaches will help them tie their belt for the very first time - no experience needed!
When you’re ready to join, we have all uniforms and gear available for purchase right at the academy.
Can Jiu-Jitsu help children with ADHD or focus challenges?
Yes! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the best activities for improving focus and self-control.
Classes are taught as an individual sport in a supportive group setting, which helps kids stay engaged and motivated.
Parents often see improvement in listening, discipline, and social skills. We also offer private lessons for kids who’d benefit from extra one-on-one time before joining a group.
What’s better for kids - Karate or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Both have value, but Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stands out because it teaches self-defense without striking.
Instead of punches and kicks, kids learn how to set boundaries, stay calm, and use leverage and control to stay safe.
That makes Jiu-Jitsu one of the most effective - and most gentle - martial arts for children.
